Freud’s psychoanalysis and Skinner’s Behaviorism believe that we are shaped by unconscious drives or by forces in the environment and that we have no actual free will while Rogers and the Humanistic psychologists believe we are shaped by our desire to achieve higher states of mindfulness and realization. Freud thought our personality is shaped by unconscious drives and reactions to events in our childhood. He believed that one path to discovering what was in a patient’s unconscious was through the interpretation of dreams. Do you think this method is reasonable and can produce useful information related to people’s problems? Why or why not?
